The Opening Ceremony

Join us at the Ashmolean Museum for the ceremony that kicks off the first full day of the festival

New Songs for Rising Voices

With invaluable financial support from the Sarah Morgan Foundation, Folk Weekend Oxford have joined forces with Rising Voices to commission two songs from leading local songwriters Jim Driscoll and Steph West that are designed to reflect the strange times we are living through and (hopefully) form a part of the folk song repertoire of the future. The songs, ‘Oxford Town’ by Jim and ‘Bigger Than Us’ by Steph, will have their premiers at the opening ceremony.

Rising Voices is a community choir with folk roots and is always looking for new members. For more information: info@risingvoices.co.uk

Award Ceremony

Folk Weekend: Oxford’s creator Cat McGill was awarded a British Empire Medal in 2021 for her astonishing work in 2020 in taking Folk Weekend online at just 5 weeks notice at the start of the pandemic.  We are excited that the Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire will be awarding Cat her medal as part of our opening ceremony.  Come and celebrate with Cat and the current FWO team.

Festival Choir

Our choir formed specially for the festival will perform three songs with choir leader Paul Sartin.

Followed by our first morris performance from Brackley Morris on the museum forecourt.
